Determine Your Readiness for Business!

June 21st, 2011

Do you have dreams of running an international conglomerate, jetting from this country to another at little notice, making phone calls from your private jet? Do you desire to sit back with your feet up, never having to worry again about money? Or perhaps the thing that occupies your thoughts is being able to set your mother up in a house you’ve paid for outright, send your children to the best private colleges, and vacation in exotic locations three times a year.

If this is your vision of success and the reason you want to go into business, you are normal. Many people desire to go into business for themselves because of the rewards they imagine it will provide. But that is not enough of a reason to embark on an entrepreneurial enterprise.

Owning a business is a nice dream, but it takes more than fantasy to turn thoughts into tangible results. Your desire will drive you, but you must have something solid to motivate you to keep going when times get rough. When you are an entrepreneur, you will have challenges.

I can tell you from my own experience that going into business for yourself is really more than a notion. Sure, you may one day earn the money to get all those financial rewards you’ve fantasized about, but you must pursue a business because it speaks to your soul and it’s something you enjoy. Money alone is never enough!

Here are some tips to consider for determining your business readiness:

  1. Find out if you have what it takes. Research your area of interest and equip yourself accordingly.
  2. Determine your true desire for your business. Be willing to make sacrifices for the success of your business.
  3. Analyze your expectations. Determine whether the nature of your business is capable of producing your expectations.
  4. Align your goals with you willingness to pursue your chosen path. You only receive to the degree that you are willing to give.
